Design Review of Strawberry Affordable Housing

The Strawberry Design Review Board will be meeting Tuesday night to discuss a plan for a 7 unit development in the Strawberry area, an unincorporated area of Mill Valley. The development would include four “affordable” housing units and 3 homes sold at market rate. The development would take place on a 16.5 acre lot near the intersection of North Knoll Road, Bay Vista Drive and Eagle Rock Road (north of Tiburon Blvd).

The affordable homes will be under 1,500 sq feet each. The market rate homes- supposedly 6,200 to almost 7,500 square feet. Those are some big houses! I completely understand residents concerns about traffic. The traffic congestion clearly needs to be addressed, but I don’t don’t buy the argument that the “affordable” homes will bring down the values in the neighborhood. The neighborhood already varies pretty widely. In actuality, the larger homes will probably bring values up.
